Lynsted and Kingsdown Parish Green – Planting

Responding to a call from the Charity to Parish Councils in Kent for suggestions for sites to plant / replant, Lynsted and Kingsdown parish council requested replacement trees for planting on Lynsted Green.

We agreed the following trees would be ideal:

1 Sorbus aucuparia

2 Malus Prairie Fire

On a winter’s day in early February, and kindly attended by David Carey as representative of the charity, volunteers from the community planted the trees successfully.

The “Home” team, a happy group, consisted of Linda and her husband Emlyn, and their two friends, Paul, a fairly recently retired landscaper and Pip, a local Cherry farmer of vast experience commercially, who between them did all the heavy work.

The sites chosen for the Crab apple trees, each within a “box” of myrtle hedge, were not easy, but the challenge was mastered!

The Whitebeam was planted in a more open setting will replace a similar tree that has died.

We hope the trees will be successful and prove an asset for the community.
